The Book of Mormon is full of times when the king or chief judge sends out a proclamation to the people. Usually these proclamations would affect religious or social life of the people. Sometimes it was declaring laws, sometimes it was gathering the people. Regardless of the reason, proclamations played a huge role in the events of the Book of Mormon.
What’s the point?
There are two major purposes in the studying the various BOM proclamations. First, it gives us insight into the legal and religious roles certain people had in society and the function of the government. Second, it allows us to see a new picture of how the events of the BOM were affected by the actions of government leaders and communication to the people. While studying, it is fun to wonder why they happened and why Mormon included them in the account.
